Habits in the New Year

Start the new year off right, by getting your check-ups scheduled.

I started my year with my first mammogram. Now that I'm 40 (oops I mean 41), it's time to start getting a yearly mammogram. It was easy to schedule at my primary care clinic or my OB/GYN. I generally get anxious with most doctor appointments but not with this one for some reason. The Tech brought me back to a very nice room where I could change into my crop top gown. She explained the procedure and said we would be done in just a few minutes. The process was uncomfortable but not painful, certainly not something to worry about or put off doing. I was dressed and out of there in a few short minutes. I received my normal results the next day and am all clear until next year. I feel good about checking that off my list! I can understand that this process may be nerve-wracking and anxiety-provoking, so give yourself grace. Ask a friend or spouse to go with you or take yourself out for a reward after it is done. The more you put off the appointment, the more your anxiety grows around it. So, commit to getting it scheduled today and celebrate the step toward better health and wellness. Up next on my to-do: dentist, yearly physical, and eye doctor. Woo hoo!
